AFTERAMBLE:
Last week I wrote that the U.S. has had 46 presidents, and 17 assassinations/or attempts. I missed one obvious reason: that in a collection of hundreds of millions (depending on the century) of diverse citizens, there might be at least a thousand mad enough to dream of killing the person in charge, and one mad enough to act it out. So perhaps America is not a patricidal nation. But this numbers game cannot be the whole answer. There’s a way to check: do other nations (say the most populous fifty, excluding war-torn and/or military-ruled nations) — do they suffer as many assassination attempts as the U.S.A.? Per capita? Significantly more, less? Availability of weapons?

Wisdom is just part of the process. It is no more elevated than the rot that helps fungus grow. Wisdom can actually be negative: it creates caution, one of the most restrictive elements, one that often prevents discoveries, cures, wealth accumulation, new ideas, inventions, etc. Note that wisdom tends to come after a life is mostly spent, without the energy or pizzazz to add to the world. But wisdom is valuable in one thing: at the end the most enlightenment comes. That is true of anything, from love affairs to dinner parties, to death.
